Studio Assignment

1E: analyzes and demonstrates the elements and principles of design.

Description: This is an assignment I made in my 3D Design class. The assignment was geared towards being able to understand form and shape and to put them together in a clean way. I built this sculpture with foam core, hot glue, and spray paint.

Rationale: This assignment demonstrates my ability to compose a 3D image using elements of design such as shapes, space (both negative and positive through the cutouts), as well as form considering I created a three dimensional object. The principles that are evident in this piece are movement throughout the form, balance between the cut out shapes and their negative spaces left, as well as emphasis on the large panel in the middle of the composition.

Artwork with Concept Development Work

4F: creates artwork that demonstrates the process of problem solving and creative exploration.

Description: This was a project that explored how to abstract observational drawings. I had started first by carefully drawing three objects from observation, making sure to emphasize important details that made the object unique. After finishing the drawings, I moved on to creating thumbnail sketches of ways in which I could abstract the original drawings. Once I had chosen a thumbnail that I liked best, I then created my final abstract drawing by using the elements and principles of design to enhance the key details of the subject matter. The drawing was created by using colored pencils and chalk pastels on mat board.

Rationale: This project shows that I can effectively use elements such as line (to emphasize wood grain texture) and shape (to break up the lines for a more unified composition), as well as principles such as emphasis which I had mentioned before to show the importance of texture of the object.

Analysis of Artwork

Description: this is an artist statement that I wrote for my Intaglio I class. The statement covers why I chose the subject of my piece, how I used the techniques/elements/principles, and finally how I thought the piece turned out overall.

Rationale: this artist statement demonstrates my ability to analyze my artwork critically.

Evidence: Intaglio Artist Statement

Clinical Observation Written Reflection

7A: the competent visual arts teacher understands child development and the psychological principles of learning and how they apply to visual arts education.

Description: This is a reflection paper written about my clinical observation experiences at Metcalf Lab School this semester.

Rationale: This reflection demonstrates my understanding of child development as well as the way children learn in art education.

Evidence: Reflection Paper
